Novena to Holy Guardian Angels

O Holy Angel, whom God, by the effect of His goodness and His tender regard for my spiritual welfare,
has charged with the care of my conduct,
and who assists me in all my wants and comforts me in all my afflictions,
who supports me when I am discouraged and continually obtains for me new favors,
I return thee profound thanks, and I earnestly beseech thee,
O most amiable Protector, to continue thy charitable care and defense of me against the
malignant attacks of all my enemies.
Keep me away from all occasions of sin.
Obtain for me the grace of listening attentively to thy holy inspirations and of faithfully
putting them into practice.
In particular, I implore thee to obtain for me the favor which I ask for by this novena.

[Here mention your need(s).]

Protect me in all the temptations and trials of this life,
but more especially at the hour of my death,
and do not leave me until thou hast conducted me into the Divine Presence of my Creator
in the Mansions of everlasting happiness. Amen.

O most faithful companion, appointed by God to be my Guardian,
and who never leaves my side, how shall I thank you for your faithfulness
and love and for the benefits which you have obtained for me!

You watch over me when I sleep; you comfort me when I am sad;
you avert the dangers that threaten me and warn me of those to come;
you withdraw me from sin and inspire me to good; you exhort me to penance when I fall and reconcile me to God.
I beg you not to leave me.

Comfort me in adversity, restrain me in prosperity, defend me in danger, and assist me in temptations, lest at any time I fall beneath them.
Offer up in the sight of the Divine Majesty my prayers and petitions,
and all my works of piety, and help me to persevere in grace until I come to everlasting life.

Amen.

Novena for Impossible Requests to Mother Mary and Jesus

“Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope!
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us;
and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Amen.”

V – Pray for us, most holy mother of God.
R – That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

“Virgin of the Incarnation,
a thousand times we greet thee,
a thousand times we praise thee for thy joy when God was incarnated in thee.
Because thou art so powerful a Virgin and Mother of God, grant what we ask of thee for the love of God.”

Here state your first intention.
Repeat all of above and then state your second intention.
Repeat all of above and then state your third intention.

Now say the Memorare

“Remember, O most Gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help
or sought thy intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of Virgins, my mother.
To thee do I cry, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Hail Mary…
Blessed and praised be the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar, in Heaven, on earth and everywhere.

AMEN.”

(This is a 9 day novena said to honour the nine months Our Lady carried Our Blessed Lord in her womb which was one of the most impossible of miracles in Christianity.)

Celtic Prayer

In Celtic spirituality, every day is a new day with God, a new start.

God, bless to me the new day,
Never vouchsafed to me before;
It is to bless Thine own presence
Thou hast given me this time, O God.

Bless Thou to me mine eye,
May mine eye bless all it sees
I will bless my neighbour,
May my neighbour bless me.

God, give me a clean heart,
Let me not from sight of Thine eye;
Bless to me my children and my wife,
And bless to me my means and my cattle.

Amen.

New Year Prayer by Billy Graham

Our Father and our God, as we stand at the beginning of this new year we confess our need of Your presence and Your guidance as we face the future.

We each have our hopes and expectations for the year that is ahead of us—but You alone know what it holds for us, and only You can give us the strength and the wisdom we will need to meet its challenges. So help us to humbly put our hands into Your hand, and to trust You and to seek Your will for our lives during this coming year.

In the midst of life’s uncertainties in the days ahead, assure us of the certainty of Your unchanging love.

In the midst of life’s inevitable disappointments and heartaches, help us to turn to You for the stability and comfort we will need.

In the midst of life’s temptations and the pull of our stubborn self-will, help us not to lose our way but to have the courage to do what is right in Your sight, regardless of the cost.

And in the midst of our daily preoccupations and pursuits, open our eyes to the sorrows and injustices of our hurting world, and help us to respond with compassion and sacrifice to those who are friendless and in need. May our constant prayer be that of the ancient Psalmist: “Teach me, O Lord, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end” (Psalm 119:33).

We pray for our nation and its leaders during these difficult times, and for all those who are seeking to bring peace and justice to our dangerous and troubled world. We pray especially for Your protection on all those who serve in our armed forces, and we thank You for their commitment to defend our freedoms, even at the cost of their own lives. Be with their families also, and assure them of Your love and concern for them.

Bring our divided nation together, and give us a greater vision of what You would have us to be. Your Word reminds us that “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12).

As we look back over this past year we thank You for Your goodness to us—far beyond what we have deserved. May we never presume on Your past goodness or forget all Your mercies to us, but may they instead lead us to repentance, and to a new commitment to make You the foundation and center of our lives this year.

And so, our Father, we thank You for the promise and hope of this new year, and we look forward to it with expectancy and faith. This I ask in the name of our Lord and Saviour, who by His death and resurrection has given us hope both for this world and the world to come.

Amen

Praying Against Evil

The scene in the Gospel reading (Jonah 4:1-11) takes place after the Ninevites converted. Jonah wanted revenge, not mercy, for those who had inflicted harm on his people. But God was concerned about the Ninevites, who “could not distinguish their right from their left” (good from evil), i.e., they had poorly formed consciences.

He is just as concerned today for the evil-doers that we know. All were made in the image of God, but they don’t know their right hand from their left. Succumbing to the spirit of evil makes people very, very stupid, so stupid that they cannot understand truth when it stares them in the face or knocks on their hearts. Of course God cares about them! He is their Father.

Are we going to be complainers like Jonah? Jesus taught us how to turn our concerns into prayer (see today’s Gospel reading, Luke 11:1-4). Remember, the Lord’s Prayer is said in the plural: It’s not meant to be prayed just for our own individual sake. We’re supposed to use it to pray for others, too. And it’s meant to be prayed in community, because it’s in the community of believers that God provides the answers to our prayers.

OUR FATHER – Daddy, Father of us all, You love all of your children, even those who don’t know You.

WHO IS IN HEAVEN – You are Lord over all. Eventually, we will all come face-to-face with Your infinite love and realize how little we have loved. Help us all to discover Your love here on earth and convert to it before it’s too late.

HOLY IS YOUR NAME – Help us all to revere You and to recognize Your great mercy. Help those who, because of their involvement in evil, are most in need of Your mercy. Help us all to turn away from everything that is not of You.

YOUR KINGDOM COME – Whatever is fighting against Your kingdom, our Savior Jesus has already defeated it through the cross and his resurrection. May his Precious Blood cover every evil-doer for whom I am praying: Break Satan’s strongholds and heal their minds and souls.

YOUR WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN – Help us all to know Your will, clearly and accurately, and fill us with a zeal for doing what You ask of us. Give us special graces to hear and grasp Your will more profoundly.

GIVE US TODAY OUR DAILY BREAD – You know what we need for understanding and doing Your will. Help us all to receive it and be nourished by it. Evil-doers are starving for You; use the circumstances of their day today to help them find You.

FORGIVE US OUR SINS – Forgive us for succumbing to temptation and for allowing ourselves to be confused about what is right and what is wrong. Forgive us for contributing to evil in the world by our unloving actions and by our lack of loving actions.

FOR WE OURSELVES FORGIVE EVERYONE IN DEBT TO US – Lord, I do forgive everyone who has sinned. I join You, merciful Father, in forgiving those who do evil. Break the chains of hatred and violence that hold so many people in Satan’s grip. Empower me to be part of Your plan to overcome evil with love.

DO NOT SUBJECT US TO THE FINAL TEST – Do not let anyone for whom I’m praying die before they have recognized and accepted Your love. Help us all to become like Jesus, who is the human embodiment of Perfect Love.

DELIVER US FROM EVIL – Deliver me and the whole world from all tactics of the devil. Rescue evil-doers from living as Satan’s instruments; set them free to enjoy Jesus Christ here on earth and then eternally in heaven.

AMEN!

Novena Prayer To St Anne To Find A Husband, For Problems With Grandchildren And Other Important Matters

Glorious St Anne, filled with compassion for those who invoke you, with love for those who suffer, heavily laden with the weight of my troubles, I kneel at your feet and humbly beg you to take my present need under your special protection: (here mention your request). Vouchsafe to recommend it to your daughter, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and lay it before the throne of Jesus. Cease not to intercede for me until my request is granted. Above all, obtain for me the grace of one day meeting my God face to face, and with you and Mary and all the saints praising him through all eternity. Amen.

FIRST DAY:

Great St Anne, engrave indelibly on my heart and in my mind the words that have reclaimed and sanctified so many sinners: “What shall it profit a man to gain the whole world if he lose his own soul?” May this be the principal fruit of these prayers by which I will strive to honour you during this novena. At your feet I renew my resolution to invoke you daily, not only for the success of my temporal affairs and to be preserved from sickness and suffering, but above all, that I may be preserved from all sin, that I may succeed in working out my eternal salvation and that I will receive the special grace of (name it). O most powerful St Anne, do not let me lose my soul, but obtain for me the grace of winning my way to heaven, there with you, your blessed spouse and your glorious daughter, to sing the praise of the most holy and adorable Trinity for ever and ever. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

Pray for us, St Anne.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

SECOND DAY:

Glorious St Anne, how can you be otherwise than overflowing with tenderness toward sinners like myself, since you are the grandmother of him who shed his blood for them, and the mother of her whom the saints call the advocate of sinners? To you, therefore, I address my prayers with confidence. Vouchsafe to commend me to Jesus and Mary so that, at your request, I may be granted remission of my sins, perseverance, the love of God, charity for all mankind, and the special grace (name it) of which I stand in need at the present time. O most powerful protectress, let me not lose my soul, but obtain for me that through the merits of Jesus Christ and the intercession of Mary, I may have the happiness of seeing them, of loving and praising them with you for all eternity. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

Pray for us, St Anne.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

THIRD DAY:

Beloved of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, mother of the Queen of Heaven, take us and all who are dear to us under your special care. Obtain for us the virtues you instilled into the heart of her who was destined to become the Mother of God, and the graces with which you were endowed. Sublime model of Christian womanhood, pray that we may imitate your example in our homes and families, listen to our petitions, and obtain our request (name it). Guardian of the infancy and childhood of the most Blessed Virgin Mary, obtain the graces necessary for all who enter the marriage state, that imitating your virtues they may sanctify their homes and lead the souls entrusted to their care to eternal glory. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

Pray for us, St Anne.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

FOURTH DAY:

Glorious Saint, I kneel in confidence at your feet, for you also have tasted the bitterness and sorrow of life. My necessities, the cause of my tears, are (name them). Good St Anne, you who did suffer much during the twenty years that preceded your glorious maternity, I beseech you, by all your sufferings and humiliations, to grant my prayer. I pray you, through your love for your glorious spouse, through your love for your immaculate child, through the joy you did feel at the moment of her happy birth, not to refuse me. Bless me, bless my family and all who are dear to me, so that some day we may all be with you in the glory of heaven, for all eternity. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

Pray for us, St Anne.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

FIFTH DAY:

Great Saint, how far I am from resembling you. I so easily give way to impatience and discouragement; and so easily give up praying when God does not at once grant my request. Prayer is the key to all heavenly treasures and I cannot pray, because my weak faith and lack of confidence fail me at the slightest delay of divine mercy. O my powerful protectress, come to my aid, listen to my petition for (name it), make my confidence and fervour, supported by the promises of Jesus Christ, redouble in proportion as the trial to which God in his goodness subjects me is prolonged, that I may obtain like you more than I can venture to ask for. In the future I will remember that I am made for heaven and not for earth; for eternity and not for time; that consequently I must ask, above all, the salvation of my soul which is assured to all who pray properly and who persevere in prayer. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

Pray for us, St Anne.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

SIXTH DAY:

Glorious St Anne, mother of the Mother of God, I beg you to obtain through your powerful intercession the pardon of my sins and the assistance I need in my troubles (name it). What can I not hope for if you deign to take me under your protection? The Most High has been pleased to grant the prayers of sinners, whenever you have been charitable enough to be their advocate.
Kneeling at your feet, I beg you to help me in all spiritual and temporal dangers; to guide me in the true path of Christian perfection, and finally to obtain for me the grace of ending my life with the death of the just, so that I may contemplate face to face your beloved Jesus and your daughter Mary in your loving companionship throughout eternity. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

Pray for us, St Anne.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

SEVENTH DAY:

O good St Anne, so justly called the mother of the infirm, the cure of all those who suffer from disease, look kindly upon the sick for whom I also want to pray; alleviate their sufferings; cause them to sanctify their sufferings by patience and complete submission to the divine will; finally deign to obtain health for them and with the firm resolution to honour Jesus, Mary and yourself by the faithful performance of duties.
But, merciful St Ann, I ask you above all for the salvation of my soul, rather than perfect bodily health for myself, for I am convinced that this fleeting life is given us solely to assure us a better one. Now, we cannot obtain that better life without the help of God’s graces. I earnestly beg them of you for the sick and for myself, especially the petition for which I am making this novena (name it) through the merits of our Lord Jesus Christ, through the intercession of his Immaculate Mother and through your efficacious and powerful mediation, O glorious St Anne. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

Pray for us, St Anne.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

EIGHTH DAY:

Remember, O St Anne, whose name signifies grace and mercy, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help and sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to you, good and kind mother; I take refuge at your feet and, sinful as I am, I venture to appear before you, burdened with the weight of my sins. O holy mother of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, despise not my petition (name it) but hear me and grant my prayer. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

Pray for us, St Anne.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

NINTH DAY:

Most holy mother of the Virgin Mary, glorious St Anne, I, a miserable sinner, confiding in your kindness, choose you today as my special advocate. I offer and consecrate my person and all my interests to your care and maternal solicitude. I hope to serve and honour you all my life for the love of your most holy daughter and to do all in my power to spread devotion to you.
O my very good mother and advocate, deign to accept me as your servant, and to adopt me as your child. O glorious St Anne, I beg you, by the passion of my most loving Jesus, the Son of Mary, your most holy daughter, to assist me in all my necessities. Venerable Mother, I beg you to obtain for me the favour I seek in this novena (name it) and the grace of leading a life perfectly conformable in all things to the divine will. I place my soul in your hands and in those of your kind daughter. I confide it to you, above all at the moment when it will be about to separate itself from my body in order that, appearing under your patronage before the Supreme Judge, he may find it worthy of enjoying his divine presence in your holy companionship in heaven. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

Pray for us, St Anne.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
